Questions

01Your Role As A Parent

For most Pakistani students, a parent is the financial sponsor, the person who signs the consent letters and the one who worries most. Your documents are part of the visa application, so knowing what is needed early prevents last-minute stress. You do not need to understand every detail of admissions; you do need to understand the money and the timeline.

02What The Sponsor Provides

DocumentWhy it’s needed
Bank statementsTo prove funds for tuition and living costs
Source of fundsSalary slips, business records, property or savings history
Relationship proofBirth certificate or family registration certificate
Consent or sponsor letterConfirming you support your child’s studies
Tax recordsOften requested to show the funds are legitimate
CNIC copiesIdentity of the sponsor

Counsellor’s tip: Keep a clear record of where large sums came from, such as a property sale or savings maturity. Officers ask about sudden deposits.

03Planning The Money

Different countries want funds shown in different ways: some want money held for a fixed number of days, some want it locked in a blocked account, and some want proof of the first year’s costs. Start planning three to six months before the visa application.

  • Ask for the total cost per year in rupees, not just tuition.
  • Find out exactly what must be shown for the visa and for how long.
  • Plan for the first two or three months abroad, before any part-time income.
  • Check whether a scholarship or tuition deposit reduces what must be shown.

04Safety, Housing And Settling In

  • Most universities offer first-year accommodation; apply early as it fills fast.
  • Ask about airport pick-up and orientation for international students.
  • Universities have support services for health, wellbeing and emergencies.
  • Pakistani student societies at many universities help new students settle in.

05Staying In Touch

Agree a simple routine before departure: a regular call, a shared location app if your child is comfortable with it, and emergency contacts on both sides. Keep copies of passports, visas, university contacts and insurance details at home.

06Questions To Ask Any Consultant

  1. 1What are your fees, in writing, and what is refundable?
  2. 2Do you receive commission from universities, and how does that affect advice?
  3. 3Who will be our counsellor from start to finish?
  4. 4What happens if the visa is refused?
  5. 5Can we see the documents before they are submitted?

Watch out: Be careful of guarantees, pressure to pay quickly, or offers to “arrange” documents. A trustworthy consultant explains risks honestly.
